Closing Time

Over the course of the past 4 months I have had the opportunity to take my passion for music and incorporate it into a fake business for my Social Media Marketing course. I am very sad to say that this will be my last and final blog posting. I talked about Facebook privacy, different types of Tweets, Pinterest, Vine videos, virtual worlds, our exclusive app release, and so much more. I'm going to miss keeping up with my music videos of the day and my playlists of the week.

I feel that in order to thrive in the business and marketing world you need to put your interests and passions into your work.  I enjoyed the marketing aspect of this class, but even more so, the creative and personal side. I'm very lucky to have had this learning experience. I hope that my love for music reflected in my blog as well as all in of my company's social media. This isn't goodbye forever, it's just Closing Time here at the Lounge. Thanks for always tuning in.

Hey guys so this week The Lounge joined the online review site YELP! It is an online review site for resurants, venues, hotels/travel, spa's and more. When starting a review you give a star rating out of five and additional comments and feedback. It's a great way to find out just how good a business is before you decide to visit! There are hundreds of Nightlife reviews in the Minneapolis area.

Harris House Music Lounge joined Yelp because we are interested in getting your feedback. We have also found Yelp to be useful in finding out venue trends that appeal to you to make your experience different than any other. Who Else Wasn't Ready?

Anyone else out there not ready to accept the fact that it is winter and that there IS SNOW ON THE GROUND? Well, you're not the only one. Workin' That 5 O'Clock Shadow...

So as you all know last month was breast cancer awareness month for all of the brave women who are going through or have survived breast cancer. However, not many people know that this month is MEN'S CANCER AWARENESS month and in support of that Harris House Music Lounge will be having a special contest where all proceeds will be donated to cancer treatment and research centers around the Twin Cities.

Our contest will start TOMORROW night and our theme will be NO SHAVE NOVEMBER. We are asking men from all around the Twin Cities to come compete for the best BEARD AWARD. Ladies don't worry we haven't left you out! You will be voting! Door open at 5pm and we will have a line up of local bands coming in to play. Admission is $10 to general public and for the men competing $5. If you are competing we will take your picture at the doors and your portrait will be posted on the back wall near the bar for final voting. As I said above all proceeds will go to fund the Cancer Research and Treatment Center in Minneapolis. SO come join us for live music and a night of hairy fun...or just fun if that's what you want. :P

Everyone Should Listen to Mayday Parade

Mayday Parade is a rock punk band from Tallahassee, Florida. Tales Told by Dead Friends was their first debut EP album. It sold over 50,000 with NO support from a record label. In 2007, Mayday Parade released their second debut album A Lesson in Romantics which also sold incredibly. The band finally signed with Atlantic records in 2009. Since then the band has released three albums: Anywhere but Here, Mayday Parade(self titled album), and their newest album Monsters in the Closet.

Having traveled the US on dozen of tours, Mayday Parade has toured along with bands like Plain White T’s, Pierce The Veil, All Time Low, The Maine, We The Kings, and Yellowcard. Fans say that they feel a strong connection to the band's lyrics, which is why they appeal to such a young crowd. Me being a fan myself can agree with this completely. I've seen them live at Warped tour 3 years in a row and at additional shows in the Twin Cities. I'm proud to say they are one of my all time favorite bands. So PLEASE take a listen.

Got Facebook Privacy?

Privacy settings should be more educated today to younger teens and adults who are users of Facebook as well as other social medias. Your privacy settings on Facebook give you the ability to pick  and chose the people you want and do not want to see your photos, posts, liked pages, friends, your bio, and more. These settings are easy to maneuver and apply, but for some people it can be a bit challenging to fully understand just what setting they are utilizing. It is very important to think before you post because unless you have your setting specifically set you never know who may be accessing your profile and all of it's data.

I do leave my current Facebook privacy settings fairly open. Most of the posts and pictures are public. However, my bio, location, and contact details are fully protected. I don't ever post anything on my profile that I think would bring me negative feedback or consequences. I honestly don't have anything to hide. Even in my physical life I am a very open person and love to connect and relate with others. Like I said in my previous paragraph, people should ALWAYS think before they post.

I do not plan on switching my privacy settings because I feel that they are appropriate to where I am and what I'm doing in my life at this point in time. I'm in college making friends and traveling. I want to document those moments and be able to look back and remember them. There were a few tricks and tips I learned in our previous class that I will remember and use, especially when it comes to using apps.  The lecture was also a good refresher to some of the things I already knew and will continue to use. Understanding Facebook privacy is important.

TOMORROWWORLD 2014

TomorrowWorld 2014 is upon us! This electronic music festival is held once a year in Chattahoochee Hills, Georgia. It is three days long, it started TODAY and goes through the 28th. Camp sites are available and tickets for the festival range anywhere from $137-$357. People gather from all around the world to rave to some of the world's top electronic artists. A few of this year's artists include: AVICII, BASSNECTAR, BORGORE, CAKED UP, DAVID GUETTA, DIPLO, KASKADE, NICKY ROMERO, SKRILLEX, STEVE AOKI, TIESTO, AND ZEDD. Here is the TomorrowWorld 2013-official aftermovie:

TomorrowWorld is a smaller festival to the original TOMORROWLAND festival held is Belgium once a year, July 25th-27th. Much like TomorrowWorld, people gather from all around the WORLD to celebrate great music and friends. There are over 15 stages with amazing light shows and surround sound. It is an all day, all night party for electronic music lovers. Watch the video below to take a look at this past summer at TomorrowLand:
